You and the employee should sign all written documents to show the employee knew of the possible layoff. Reasons for firing a jobholder are as varied as their faces. The wise supervisor will put the jobholder into progressive discipline and document expectations in a clear, concise written format. Many supervisors and Human resources managers wonder if the letter should include the dismissal reason.
